Eyebrows speak louder than words..

Ever looked at your throwback photos on Facebook and wondered where the heck are my eyebrows!?? All these old photos are causing me trauma.. but I knew where mine were.. I plucked them down to nothing. It was a massive craze in high school.. for some reason. Just like it was to wear the bubble socks. My brows literally looked like a squiggle on my face. But I think I rocked the plucked chicken look rather well. With my bell bottom jeans and my hair scraped back into a bun and about twenty scrunchies wrapped round it...I could have stepped in for the NV mannequins in their windows and you wouldn't have known the difference! I put it down to watching Christina Aguilera in her Genie in a Bottle video over and over again. Her brows actually made mine look good. (And Tina babes your brows still aren't much better)

Now.. Ten years later.. Eyebrows are extremely important in your daily make up routine and are basically the first feature anyone notices on your face. They enhance your features and your facial shape. But many girls these days feel they need to fill their brows in to NIKE ticks and there is just no need. Your eyebrows need to be rather eye catching but they don't need to look un natural and like slugs.. Or hockey sticks or caterpillars. It's not cool girls. Even men have caught on to the importance of eyebrows and they have theirs nicely cleaned up these days.

I've used many different products over the years trying to make my brows look a little less anorexic. I've tried Pencils.. Brow kits.. Powders.. Gels.. And I have never been satisfied with they way they make my brows turn out. My eyebrows had a different shape everyday.. And they actually took me ages. I went into shops everywhere and asked the Make Up artists for kits that would give me Kimmy K brows and it just never happened... And it never will happen but I'm doing my best to make mine look good.

So I did my research on other options. I had heard of Semi Permanent Make Up but thought all that was totally out of my price range. Never would I have had a needle put near my face before. Okay maybe for some botox and fillers which I'm sure il blog about soon enough as I'm fast approaching 27 but the thought of a tattoo did frighten me. I thought what if I hate them...what if they look awful.. Then thought they can't look any worse! I've seen people with them done and they look horrendous and so fake and I wonder why they have left the house. Clearly theirs were just done badly. However.. Semi Permanent make up is taking over the UK by storm at the minute and a number of stars are showing that it can be done properly and look absolutely amazing. Including me haha. Many celebs are rocking the SPMU and it is becoming an essential fashion necessity these days. Watching TOWIE it seems like the only way is semi permanent make up. And after having it done myself I can definitely see why!

After quite a drunken night out in The North Coast.. I bumped into a girl I've known for many years.. Kirsten Lyons. (I'll tell you about how we first met in another chapter.. Lol) We had a wee dance and a gossip and we chatted about her recent venture which happened to be.. The semi permanent make up. I'd seen some pictures on Facebook but I had never actually looked in detail and realised how amazing her work actually was. She told me she would not let me down and one jegar bomb later I was booked in for the following week to have my anorexic brows given some vital TLC.

Browologist Kirsten works at the cute little eyebrow and beauty boutique in Conway Mill in Belfast called The Browtique. Owned by Sinead Mcdonald. I have seen many people check in on Facebook to this little cute beauty box and so many positive reviews. Specialising in HD brows.. Both girls are masters in their trade.. Sinead offers the microblading brows and Kirsten uses the tattoo method. Kirsten has been working in the beauty industry for over 5 years and has been qualified in SPMU just over a year... But she is a natural! With a sunbed in the salon and nail treatments available also you could literally spend the whole day in there!! Sinead is a finalist in The Northern Ireland Hair and Beauty awards for Beauty Therapist of the year.. Good luck Sinead.. Fingers crossed for you!

But yes.. I'll get back to my squiggles. I headed down for my appointment rather nervous. I had debated texting Kirsten and cancelling but I'd no brow kit left so I had no choice. I had a seat and BROWSED through a magazine.. (see what I did there) Trying to take the gossip in all I could hear was the buzzing of the needle while Kirsten beautified a client before me. I gulped my tea down and had some numbing cream put on my brows.. Apparently it eases the pain. (Apparently)

The girl before me came out and her brows looked amazing. Kirsten took me over to the chair to have my brows drawn up and measured correctly. She showed me the shape and I worked with her on making a shape I was happy with. To be fair.. She got it right first time. Then she took me to her room and popped me on the bed.. Waiting on the anaesthetic (I could only dream) the brow magic started and it actually felt rather relaxing. My treatment only took about 40 mins.. I couldn't believe how quick Kirsten was. She whipped out her mirror to show me her masterpiece and OH MY DAYS they looked AMAZING. They looked so natural and very well defined. Every hair stroke was perfect and the shape was totally on fleek! (I think that's still a cool thing to say?) My brows will last up to 3 years and only then I will need a top up every 18 months or so to prolong my original treatment!

This is a picture of my brows before.. And after..

Voila!! And yes.. They really did look like that before! Don't they look amazing now!?

My after care contained applying some bepantham cream at night and trying to keep them dry and out of UV Ray's for about ten days. They healed a little crusty like a normal tattoo but it was so unnoticeable and I used a clean and dry old mascara brush to brush them through! I finally had brows to brush though!

Six weeks later I was due my top up. They still looked in perfect shape from my first treatment but to prolong the SPMU and ensure its pigment Kirsten recommends coming for your top up. It was a short and sweet procedure. Others may really need their top up to ensure the tone is perfect and any patches are fixed up. When they are first done.. They look deep in colour but this colour fades 40%. I wear no product day to day and it saves ten minutes off my morning routine and I feel so confident without make up. This will be a God Send on holidays! I do however wear a little bit of dip brow when heading out on the town and the odd bit of clear brow gel.
After my top up! And no product :)

How amazing is her work!? I now think I want other treatments done as well.. I can see how people get addicted lol. Kirstens Prices for her treatments are as follows..
